About

The Writers
Courtney (left) and Ariel (right) are two twenty-somethings who live in Central Texas. We met in high school about 8 years ago, when Ariel would not stop hitting Courtney on the head with her locker, and have been best friends ever since. We share passions for the Lord, Ariel’s mom’s queso, and psychology, and we often discuss these matters over a bowl of said queso. If you want to enjoy this blog to it’s fullest extent, you should have yourself a bowl of your own queso while reading. Just a suggestion.

Ariel . . .

Ollo! I'm Ariel. I studied at a private Baptist university in Central Texas. I got my degree in psychology with a minor in Christian studies (for the record, Courtney is younger than me and picked her degree because she's constantly striving to be more like me. Can't say I blame her). Court went to a public school, so it's really neat getting to talk with her about our studies given we were in completely different environments - she in a secular classroom while 1/2 of my professors prayed before class. I don't mean to say my school was better by any means (although let's be honest. My school trumps em all). I only mean I like sharing the different perspectives we each encountered while studying, and I think it affects the way we think about and approach topics. I also think it might come out on this sucker (a.k.a. blog). Moving on.....

Court's the real brains of this outfit (as well as the legitimate writer as I'm sure you can tell by now). I'm the weirdo who constantly can't make up her mind and can hardly focus without a juice box within immediate reach. I enjoy reading (specifically Francine Rivers, Winnie-the-Pooh, poetry, and the Bible), being outside, autumn (undoubtedly the best season of the year... unless you're in Texas, where it is nonexistent), boots (not of the cowgirl variation), folk music (as well as gospel, jazz, blues, and worship), bracelets, hats, green bell peppers, musicals, and of course, hangin with my best friend Jesus =) I now work for the elderly, which I love. I don't have a smartphone and I'm ok with it, though literally everyone in my life (including my Mom) makes fun of me for it. I love to dance and sing (not professionally mind you), eat (not ashamed), and I probably use parentheses more than I should (doesn't mean I'm gonna stop). Crunchy leaves, giant trees, stars, mountains, long drives down unknown farm roads, mint chocolate ice cream, coffee mugs, daisies, the color yellow, moscato, and unconditional love (which should be offered by all of us) should pretty much sum up things I love. I'm really excited about this sucker (again, the blog) and I really hope you'll talk with us about our posts and your passions! And of course, if you need prayer, we are way more than happy to intercede for you! We'll pray for you by name if you'll let us =) I love you!

Favorite Quote:
"Each of us is meant to have a character all our own, to be what no other can exactly be, and do what no other can exactly do." William Ellery Channing
Favorite Verse:
"Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

The Purpose
We are both avid Facebookers and recently realized just how often we were commenting on other people’s posts about religion. We got tired of being limited to Facebook conversations and thus decided to start our own forum where we could talk about Jesus all the time! We realized that, as Christians who live in America, we are constantly making mistakes and warring with loyalty between country and Christ. We idealize the strict American mentality of individualism, fall for the gospel of prosperity garb, and struggle with materialism & vanity daily. We both feel compelled to discuss these issues, discover why we are struggling with them, and see how others are handling this. Courtney is a compulsive writer and Ariel just thinks way too much for her own good - hence this blog. We are exploring what it means to put God over country because we feel that there aren't enough people engaging in this discussion. We hope that you and everyone else reading this blog will talk with us, and we pray that Christ will guide our hands and thoughts.
